Promotional Hat, Custom Hats
Hats were used by the humans very long ago. Later there were many reformations in the style of hat and during the middle ages it became the symbol of status of authority. First hats were found in the tomb paintings at Thebes. This depicts a man wearing a coolie style straw hat. The other earlier hats include the Pileus a simple skull cap. The Phrygian cap was later identified as the liberty caps. These were given to the slaves in Greece and Rome when they were made free men. The Pestasos which comes from the ancient Greece is the first known hat to be with a brim.
These were not influenced by the men’s head fashion. By the mid of 1800’s Swiss and Italian straws together with paper, cardboard, grass and horsehair was available for the women, also with the introduction of velvet and tulle. During the early 19th century women’s fashion started dominating. Women’s hat gained its own name among the upper class. Hats were then made by many ribbons, feathers, flowers giving it an appearance of even greater size. At the end of the century although these type of bonnets was still there, other styles of hats with wide brims and flat crowns were popular.
During 1930’s and 1940’s the tendency for the hat was to be with higher crowns. Again during the war time women stated trimming their hair and started using turbans made of pre war materials. During the 1950’s there was a wild change in the world of fashion. Ready to wear clothes started robbing the milliners in the crucial part of the world. During the war many women who had not worked before were employed. They lost their newly found freedom and independence. This situation made them not to spend too much of time in fashion.
In 1960’s, hats started gaining its importance by wigs. Many hair styles were introduced and hats with different models were lining the markets. There was a sudden fame for hair dressers. Theses hair dressers colored, back combed, and sprayed women’s hair into sculptures. In the late 1980’s and 1990’s there had been a revival of interest in both men and women. They realized they could dress less formally. This was how ever changed to a greater extent by public personalities such as Princess of Wales. She highly enthusiastic in wearing different types of hat to suite her personality.
Since the invention of promotional hats, it had undergone a lot of changes in its styles. It had been considered as symbol of status. It was also a part of uniform in some of the European countries. There are always two basic styles – the brimmed and the brimless and two basic forms – the caps and the personalized hats. Hats today are worn for any special occasion such as wedding in European countries. Functional hats are still used by the uniformed workers for their identity. Individuals were fun hats or beanie hats in very cold weather and sun hats in very sunny weather. Fashion designers are aware of this fact and depict the importance of promotional hats in fashion now and then.
