Human beings have shown their inventiveness in cloths to suite the practical purposes and also for the type of job such as swimming suits, drive suits, air conditioned Clothes, armor, high visibility clothing, protective clothes etc, Clothing industry is much concentrated outside Western Europe and America.

According to archeologists and anthropologists, the early style of dressing includes fur and leather. Sewing needles of bone and ivory from about 30,000 BC were found near Russia.

Even today people of high ranks reserve their type of clothes to enrich their social status. In the earlier days Romans wore garments dyed with Tyrian purple; high ranked Hawaiian chiefs wore feather cloaks and craved whale teeth. In Kerala, the lower caste women had to pay tax to cover their upper body with clothes. In China before Republic only the Emperor could wear yellow.

In many parts of the world the type and style of promotional clothing declare membership of their religion, caste particularly. A Muslim woman wears a hijjab as an identification of her religion. A male Sikh wears a turban as a mark of his religion. A French peasant wears a cap as an identification of her village. In certain circumstances religious clothing might be considered as a special case of occupational clothing. For example, during religious ceremonies Janis wears unstitched clothes. These unstitched clothes are a signification of complete devotion according to them. In the eastern religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism the religious dresses gain much importance for its cleanliness, since it indicates purity.

Many sports and physical activities are performed wearing special clothes for comfort, practical and safety reasons. Sportswear garments commonly used are promotional T-shirts, shorts, trainers, tracksuits etc. specialized garments like wet suits are used for swimming and other water based events.

Commonly used clothing materials are wool, cotton, silk, flax, hemp, lyocell, ramie and other synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon. Less commonly used clothing material are rubber, paper, jute, PVC, rayon, bamboo, recycled PET, recovered cotton, soy and other natural products. Materials such as wood, bone, plastic and metal might be used in fasteners or in stiffening the garments.

Western fashion and western styles have more impact on other countries. Even the poor are ready to spend a little on western clothing style. No- longer wearable clothing was considered as raw material for bandages rag rugs and many other household items. It is also recycled into paper. Used but still wearable clothes could be sold at flea markets, online auction, consignment shops or could be just donated to charity. The culture or the tradition has been changed to a very great extent that the people use ethnic or the national dress only on special occasion. For instance the Japanese women have started using the western style dress for daily wear but still wear silk Kimonos on special occasions.
